Fallout 4 Freedom Trail Code (February 2024) [Updated]

In the vast wasteland of Fallout 4, players have the unique opportunity to join the secretive Railroad faction through the “Road to Freedom” quest. This guide will walk you through the steps to discover the Railroad’s hidden hideout, navigate the Fallout 4 Freedom Trail Code, and ultimately become a member of this exclusive group.

A Fallout 4 Guide: Initiating the Quest

There are several ways to kickstart this quest, but the easiest is to eavesdrop in either Diamond City or Goodneighbor. For our journey, we chose Diamond City. Walk around, listen to the locals, and you’ll likely catch wind of the mysterious Railroad faction. Once you overhear these conversations, your quest objective will shift to “Follow the Freedom Trail.”

Following the Freedom Trail

Head towards the fountain in Boston Common near the Park Street Station, marked on your map. At the fountain, you’ll find a board with cryptic writing stating, “At Journey’s End Follow Freedom’s Lantern.” This is your cue to embark on the Freedom Trail, a historical tourist trail that winds through the city.

The Trail and Clues:

  1. Boston Common: Start at the fountain. Follow the red brick path, leading away from a marked seal. The next destination is the Massachusetts State House. Look for a seal reading “L4.”
  2. Old Granary Burying Ground: Continue along the trail, fighting off Ferals. Note the seal at the Old Granary Burying Ground marked “A2.”
  3. Old State House: Proceed to the Old State House. Find the seal reading “O6” amidst some gruesome scenes.
  4. Old Corner Bookstore: Keep moving towards the Old Corner Bookstore. Defend against enemies, and locate the seal marked “3I.”
  5. Faneuil Hall: Head to Faneuil Hall, marked with “5R.” Beware of Super Mutants in this area.
  6. Paul Revere’s House: Continue towards Paul Revere’s House, defeating enemies. Find the seal marked “8D.”
  7. Old North Church: The trail concludes at the Old North Church. The final clue seal reads “1R.” Head straight to the Old North Church if you want to skip the trail.

Entering the Railroad Hideout

Upon reaching the Old North Church, enter the door marked by the seal and lantern on the ground. Inside, combat Ghouls and make your way to the church basement. Navigate through corridors until you find the Freedom Trail Ring. Input the password “RAILROAD” by aligning letters on the ring and unlocking the door.

Joining the Railroad Faction

After unlocking the door, you’ll meet Desdemona and other Railroad members. Choose to be honest or withhold information when questioned. This interaction leads to a follow-up quest called “Tradecraft.” Complete it, return to Desdemona, and decide whether to join the Railroad faction. Note that your choices may affect your standing with other factions in the game, such as the Brotherhood of Steel and the Institute. Choose wisely as you navigate the complex world of Fallout 4.
